Partner's Programme

Running in parallel with the EME conference (Friday & Saturday) will be a partner program. This is aimed at making your stay in the Cambridge area as delightful and interesting as possible.
Thursday - Bletchley Park
This tour is for the “early birds” (partners and conference attenders) who arrive the day prior to the conference. Following breakfast, a coach will transport you the 47 miles to these historic buildings which were the source of the Ultra Intelligence. This is where the UK’s Code Breakers of World War 2 were based. The museum has a working replica of Colossus, the world’s first computer, which was used to break the code of the Lorenz (Tunny) cipher machines. Visit the rooms where the brilliant mathematician Alan Turing, Bill Tutte, engineer Tommy Flowers and their teams lived and worked.
Bletchley Park is also home to the recently opened National Radio Centre.

Saturday - Saffron Walden
There is a tour of the market town of Saffron Walden and the striking Audley End House and gardens.
Saffron Walden dates back to before the birth of Christ and is the home of the largest parish church in the county of Essex.
At Audley End manor house, take a step back in time and see how the English aristocracy and their servants lived in this Jacobean mansion. The gardens at the house have been restored to their original glory by English Heritage and what mustn’t be missed is the Pastoral Parkland which was designed by the renowned Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 1700s.

Friday - Cambridge
On Friday you are free to explore the historic City of Cambridge and the surrounding area. Cambridge is steeped with history; there are parts which can be traced back 3500 years, whilst the University, dates back to 1209.
From your room at Churchill College, you can take a taxi or the short walk in to town and stroll by the river, in the footsteps of many members of the British Royal Family and scientific and literary greats such as Isaac Newton and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Then watch the punts go slowly by as you sip a cup of English tea in one of the many tea rooms. Maybe take a guided walking tour and a trip on a chauffeured punt on the River Cam.
Help will be on hand at the College to enable you to plan your day.
