Noise Figure Measurements

An integral part of previous conventions has been the measurement of the performance of the participant’s preamplifier(s).

The measurement of a preamp's noise figure, or noise temperature, can have many pitfalls, and has been documented in number of articles.

At the conference we are fortunate to have two of Europe’s ‘reference systems’ and their ‘operators’.

Sam G4DDK and John G3XDY using the HP8970A NF measuring set in conjunction with a HP346A 6dB ENR Noise Source – and an HP346C for 24GHz. TCold being read and set manually.

With the use of external converters, this will provide NF measurement from 50MHz to 24GHz.

Dominique will be using his Agilent 8975A and a Agilent N4000A 6dB ENR noise source with integral temperature compensation for TCold.

This is a standalone item that covers 10MHz – 18GHz
